MANILA, Philippines — The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption and relatives of the victims of the 2006 Ultra stampede are to file criminal charges against TV game show host Willie Revillame.
Revillame, then host of “Wowowee” show on ABS-CBN, would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries on Wednesday at the Pasig City Prosecutors Office, VACC chair Dante Jimenez said Saturday.
Seventy-eight people were crushed to death while 392 were injured in the stampede at the Philippine Sports Arena (formerly Ultra) in 2006 when a huge crowd lining up to get inside the arena for the anniversary show of the noontime show rushed toward the gates, causing a panic as those who were nearer the entrance were crushed.
